Axson opens two new subsidiaries
Resin and adhesive formulator/distributor and tooling materials company Axson (Saint-Ouen-l'Aumone, France) announced last week the opening of two new subsidiaries, one in Dubaï (United Arab Emirates) and the other in Puna, close to Bombay, India. The announcement follows previous openings in Asia (Shanghai) in 2003 and Eastern Europe (Slovakia) in 2005.
As a result of the move, Axson is billing itself as the sole tooling and prototyping company able to provide its customers with a global offer. "We consider as essential to be present in the same geographical areas of our customers, in order to provide them with the most adaptable solutions needed to secure their local development, " says Patrick Blosse, Axson vice president.
After seven years of development in Asia, the company says its strategy has proven successful: "Axson’s turnover in the area has already reached 15% of total sales," says Blosse.
Axson Group is developing its technology and know how in France, while both Chinese and Slovak production sites will strengthen Axson’s international position in these fast growing markets. Axson is investing 1 million Euros, on average, per year in production research, and new technologies are indeed absorbing the major part of present and future programs of development, says the company.
Following its desire to bring together manufacturers (in particular LNG tankers manufacturers in Korea, where Axson has an office), Axson reports it will soon open an office in California, located in the heart of international activity for tanker design and prototyping.

EXTRUDABLE PASTES ARE THE ANSWER TO THE EVOLUTION OF THE AUTOMOTIVE DESIGN INDUSTRY
With new evolutions in design technology and more particularly the development of new high speed milling machines, these improvements imposed very important changes in the automotive design industry. By allowing a faster conception and realization for the designer and stylists these designs can be produced quicker and cleaner as well as more efficiently.
The clay, plaster, machinable boards and the manual modeling pastes traditionally used in the motor design, have to leave their hierarchy behind to new more successful materials developed just for these new technologies.
Axson, in extensive collaboration with motor designers, developed the NEW SC 167, an extrudable paste which presents mechanical characteristics perfectly adapted to the needs of the stylists and the motor designers. The use of the SC 167 extrudable paste is applied in relatively thin applications of 1 3/16" to 1 1/2" (between 30 and 40 mm), on polystyrene premanufactured forms or polyurethane foams. Allowing the material the ability to be applied only and thick or thin as the specific application requires for the models.
The SC 167 extrudable paste, when applied within the application specifications, presents the advantage of no bond lines, ease of use and allows after manufacturing and painting, the ability to obtain a homogenous form with a perfect appearance. The new Axson Extrudable Paste materials have an physical aspect which performs closely to the previously preferred clay, in so giving the designers and stylists the possibility to adjust their designs manually if required.
